How to share & what we need

Ways to share your story

• Set up your phone and share via a self recorded video.
• Submit pictures that represent you and your story. They could be from when you grew up. Each picture can have a note included as to why it's significant in your life.
• Write a letter to your younger self and send us a photo of it.
• Film a meeting with the whole house, your support group, or group of friends.
• Give us a house tour showing us what your day to day life is like.
• Video of an at home family dinner, giving us an idea of where you come from.
• Tour your town and record what your favorite spots mean to you.
• The house director can go around and ask each of the members questions.

If you're recording video

• Find a comfortable setting, with natural light, that isn't too loud. A place that may be of personal value to you. Your childhood home, favorite outdoor space in your town, schools you attended, recovery home you attended, favorite spot to sit by the river, etc.
• Set up a camera horizontally (this can be your phone) and make sure that you're in clear view and the microphone isn't blocked by anything. Be seated facing the camera and make sure we can see and hear you.

Before you send

• If you create a video sharing your story it should be no more than 10 minutes long.
• You must be 18+ to submit and share your NAME and WHERE you're from/live.
• By submitting your story you are giving Beneath the Rust permission to share it publicly.
• We are a nonpolitical and nonreligious platform, so we ask that submissions focus on your personal story and journey.
